The post Holder will be responsible for overseeing the Surgical Assessment Unit Hot Clinic on SAU. This runs on the unit Monday to Friday from 0730 - 1530. We scan up to 8 patients a day, followed by a consultation with a registrar. The patients will have been seen previously by a clinician and asked to return to the Clinic to prevent an unnecessary hospital stay.

Responsibilities:
1. To greet patients attending the clinic and book them onto the EPR system.
2. To ensure patients are prepared for scans and that any required documents are available.
3. To ensure effective communication with patients, the radiology department, and doctors.
4. To liaise with the nursing staff and medical team on the unit.
5. To ensure the clinic runs effectively and patients receive optimum care.
6. To ensure the IT systems are accurately updated.
7. Responsible for own actions, ensuring all patient interactions/observations are communicated to the appropriate healthcare practitioner.
8. Undertake agreed clinical and non-clinical tasks, extending range following training in defined practices. Ensure referral to the appropriate healthcare practitioner where appropriate.
9. Demonstrate technical and/or practical skills to ensure optimum patient management e.g., venepuncture/cannulation/ECG where agreed.
10. Organise own daily workload e.g., use and cleaning of identified medical and non-medical equipment.
11. Assist with personal patient care e.g., bed-bathing and feeding if required.
12. Frequent processing of patient property and valuables, ensuring accurate documentation where appropriate.
13. Support less experienced members of staff in their orientation to the ward and role.
14. Utilise IT systems to secure accurate and timely patient data, including IPM in order to admit, outcome, and discharge patients.
15. Support the team in expected and unexpected clinical events requiring high but unpredictable levels of physical effort according to patient dependency/clinical need.
16. Support staff and patients exposed to difficult situations arising in the clinical area e.g., after receipt of bad news or following an unexpected event.
17. Maintain a clean, safe environment ensuring adherence to Trust standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and infection control at all times.
18. Promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from known hazards.
19. To work autonomously to run the clinic under the supervision of the Ward Manager, ensuring patients are processed in a timely manner, escalating issues.
20. To liaise closely with radiologists and registrars to ensure patients receive an excellent patient journey.
