Job Description
One of my local government clients is currently recruiting an experienced Solicitor/Lawyer – Highways & Planning on a temporary basis. This is a 3-month minimum contract with the possibility of extension. The role is Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. It is a hybrid role, requiring attendance at the office 2-3 times a week.
Overview: To be a key lawyer in an in-house legal team, contributing to delivering an efficient and high-quality legal service to enable the council to meet its corporate priorities. This position offers a great opportunity to develop a legal career within a high-performing, aspirational local government legal team.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Deliver high-quality legal advice and services to Directorates and Corporate Services, including drafting documents and legal agreements, to ensure policies are formulated and operational decisions are legally sound.
2. Undertake negotiations to protect and advance the objectives of the Council, and, where necessary, handle litigation and advocacy in courts, tribunals, statutory appeals, and inquiries.
3. Participate in project teams to ensure the achievement of the Council’s objectives and the delivery of high-quality legal advice to client services, departments, and contractors where appropriate.
4. Identify, research, and anticipate the legal implications of new developments to ensure clients can adopt best practices and deliver timely, responsive services.
