Trainee Manufacturing Engineer
* Hanslope Park, near Milton Keynes
* £28,411
Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week or part-time (covering a minimum of 28 hours) between Monday and Friday. Flexible or compressed working patterns available. This role is office based.
We are HMGCC, His Majesty's Government Communications Centre, the engineering specialists at the heart of the UK’s national security. If you’ve got the skills we’re looking for, you’ll find a place in our diverse team.
Your role
Want to build a unique and varied career that helps protect our national security? As a trainee, you’ll gain new skills and experience in a purpose-built manufacturing facility surrounded by experts in the field. Supported and supervised by senior colleagues, you’ll work with advanced equipment and cutting-edge tech, learning how to produce products through the entire lifecycle for our partners.
You’ll get plenty of guidance and training to become an efficient and effective manufacturing engineer, supported by an experienced mentor in one of two teams:
Design and Prototyping
You’ll gain experience in design and prototyping and learn how to assemble products from raw materials to meet specifications, producing appropriate tooling jigs and fixtures that facilitate the production of items.
Wiring and Assembly
You’ll learn how to assemble and build high-quality components and products according to design and documentation provided, using various techniques such as soldering, wiring and box build.
What you need
You don’t require any qualifications to apply, just an interest in how products are manufactured or in manufacturing processes, and experience working as part of a team to complete a project. You’ll be curious and collaborative, comfortable asking for help when needed and ready to offer support to others when the opportunity arises. Always eager to learn and develop, you welcome and proactively seek out feedback to help you improve.
What we offer
You’ll get full training in house as you learn on the job and through mentorship and support from experienced colleagues. You’ll also have the opportunity to gain funding for an accredited qualification. There’s plenty of room to grow and progress with us and you’ll be empowered to do so. Plus, you’ll be part of a welcoming, inclusive environment where people from all kinds of backgrounds – with different lived experiences and perspectives – come together. As well as a range of sports and social societies for you to meet new people, we have a number of affinity groups including disability, LGBTQIA+ and ethnic minority networks. It’s all to help you feel comfortable bringing your whole self to work. And, you’ll also get access to our excellent on-site facilities, including free parking, a free 24-hour gym, and a nursery.
