About the role
We have an exciting opportunity to join our Regulation and Assurance team as a Long Term Strategy Manager, working with your colleagues to deliver Northumbrian Water Group’s Long Term Strategy to meet the future needs of our customers, communities and the environment, preparing the business for the challenges and expectations of the future.
Our current Long Term Strategy takes a long term view up to 2050, setting out the investments and activities we need to undertake to deliver reliable services, care for the environment, maintain affordability for customers, and protect sustainability and resilience – all in a changing and uncertain world. As Long Term Strategy Manager, you will provide oversight of the Long Term Strategy itself, ensuring it remains coordinated with other key strategies. This will involve being the lead on the NWL Economic Regulation team for understanding, influencing and contributing to the planning frameworks that will form the basis of future price review business plans, including the statutory Water Resources Management Plan, the Drainage and Wastewater Management Plan and local strategies and plans in relation to the environment, net zero, asset health, affordability and customer service. With the overall aim being the development of a high quality business plan/meeting the evidential requirements of our regulators.
About you
If you have experience of developing plans and strategies in asset heavy organisations, we want to hear from you. You will have an understanding of the general pressures and trends in the water sector, as well as experience working in a regulated environment. Ideally, you will also have an understanding of Defra, the Environment Agency, OFWAT and DWI.
You will have the people skills to engender a collaborative and cross team approach to development of the Long Term Strategy, as well as the ability to engage and influence at all levels of the organisation.
You will understand option development, option appraisal and cost-benefit principles that will drive decision making. You will be adept at interpreting complex concepts and datasets, synthesising them and presenting them back to key stakeholders in a simplified form.
You will have experience in scenario analysis and developing strategies that are robust to different futures and flexible to respond to different pressures and outcomes. You are highly numerate and able to undertake and understand simple financial modelling to be able, for example, to consider future investment requirements and bill impacts.
