This post provides an exciting opportunity for a dynamic individual to join the existing team of 10 ENT consultants whilst delivering a specialist interest in all aspects of otology. The candidate will have the opportunity to be part of the bi-monthly cochlear MDT, IAD MDT and fortnightly Skull Base MDT depending on specific interest. The successful candidate will link into a progressive and enthusiastic multi-professional team based at James Cook which provides comprehensive ENT services to the population of Teesside, South Durham and North Yorkshire. They will contribute to the department’s teaching and training activities.
The department hosts the North East Cochlear Implant Programme (NERCIP), and contributes to a subregional lateral skull base surgical service in conjunction with the on site neurosurgical team. This is supported by a comprehensive audiology team delivering tertiary audiology, neonatal screening and management of balance disorders.
The department also comprises a fully established complete supraregional subspecialised Otorhinolaryngology service. This includes Rhinology (with anterior skull base surgery), Head and Neck surgery, the sub-regional Head and Neck oncology centre and Paediatric ENT. Other specialist services in the department include adult voice, paediatric voice, airway and swallow, and a comprehensive head & neck dystonia service, offering botulinum toxin treatment.
The post holder will complement and develop existing services through the provision of specialist knowledge & expertise in ENT with a sub-specialist interest in Otology. The post holder is therefore required to have full registration with the General Medical Council and a valid licence to practice and be on the specialist register for ENT or be within 6 months of CCT or equivalent at the time of interview.
The ENT department is centrally based within a modern purpose built facility in the James Cook University Hospital, with a peripheral service network across the region. The Trust is one of the largest Foundation Trusts in England. The Otology Team enjoys a close and collaborative working relationship with the Neurosurgical, Maxillofacial, Plastic Surgery and Ophthalmology departments, all based at James Cook.

Minimum Requirements:
1. Full GMC registration.
2. FRCS (or equivalent).
3. On the Specialist Register or within approximately 6 months of receiving their Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at the time of interview.
The successful candidate will be appointed under the current terms and conditions of service for NHS Consultants. Full consideration will be given to applicants who wish to apply for a reduced/part time contract.
