Audit Manager (Manchester, Bolton, or Liverpool)
Our client, a prominent independent chartered accountancy firm in the North West, is hiring an Audit Manager to oversee multiple audit engagements across Manchester, Bolton, or Liverpool. This senior role offers hybrid working flexibility and the opportunity to shape the audit team while ensuring the highest standards of client service and audit quality.
Key Responsibilities:
* Plan, lead, and oversee multiple audit engagements from initiation through to completion, ensuring each is delivered on time and within budget.
* Manage audit teams across different engagements, providing clear direction and oversight to maintain compliance with professional standards and firm policies.
* Serve as the primary client contact at the audit manager level, building and maintaining strong client relationships and addressing complex queries or issues.
* Review and finalize audit work papers and reports prepared by the team, ensuring accuracy, thoroughness, and adherence to auditing standards.
* Coordinate audit scheduling, staffing, and budgeting, and communicate regularly with Directors/Partners on engagement progress and findings.
* Identify areas for improvement in clients’ financial processes and provide value-added recommendations during closing meetings.
* Mentor and develop audit seniors and other team members, fostering a high-performance culture and succession pipeline.
Key Requirements:
* ACA/ACCA qualified with substantial post-qualification experience in external audit (typically 5+ years total audit experience).
* Proven track record in planning and delivering complex audit projects for a variety of clients.
* Deep knowledge of auditing standards, financial reporting (UK GAAP/IFRS), and regulatory compliance requirements.
* Strong risk management awareness and the ability to implement effective control measures during audits.
* Excellent client management skills with the ability to consult and communicate with senior client stakeholders confidently.
* Demonstrated leadership and team management skills; able to inspire and organize teams to meet objectives.
* Proficiency in audit software (e.g., CaseWare, CCH) and strong analytical capabilities.
* Strategic mindset with the ability to contribute to practice management (budgeting, resource planning, etc.).
