Senior Clinical Fellow Posts (IMT3+/Registrar level): Respiratory Medicine
A role in Respiratory Medicine has arisen for a Clinical Fellow post (STR level) in Respiratory Medicine at the Royal site.
Successful applicants will support specialty teams in Respiratory in the management of their in-patient & out-patient workload and will participate in 1 in 6 weekends rota for Respiratory medicine. The specific rotation preferences will be discussed with candidates at interview.
Successful candidates would be encouraged to take an active role in a Sub-speciality area of interest while also supporting the wider goals of the Respiratory Department.
The post-holder will have a named supervisor and will be supported in undertaking scheduled educational opportunities within the Trust and clinical specialties.
Current areas with dedicated support have already been identified in Asthma, Pleural and COPD, ILD and a possible ID role to link in with the ID team here at RLUH (TB/pneumonia/bronchiectasis)
There is an active research department, and opportunities can be sought to take part in local and National research projects.
Candidates must have current UK GMC Registration and be able to start August 2025. Candidate must have part 1 & 2 MRCP.
Main duties of the job
Senior clinical fellows are ST3+ equivalent working under the direction of the consultants, for the dedicated Out-Patients and wards for patients in the Respiratory Medicine directorate:
1. Assist in the supervision, teaching, training, and monitoring of more junior doctors and also the teaching and training of medical students.
2. Attend 2/3 outpatient clinics per week, ward rounds of firms to which they have specific responsibility and weekly directorate meetings.
3. Take part in the day-to-day provision of care for the Respiratory Patients at RLUH to include ward work, ward referrals, NIV, bronchoscopy (EBUS) and pleural procedures with specialist clinics in:
* Asthma
* Pleural disease
* Occupational Lung Disease
* Fungal Lung disease
* COPD
* ILD
* Lung Cancer & virtual nodules
As a Department, this role is envisaged that a sub-speciality interest is developed whilst having the exposure to all the separate sub-specialties. There is a dedicated Respiratory Support Unit with exposure to level 2 medicine with good links with critical care. Candidates would also be encouraged to show leadership on the ward rounds and in developing QI projects, audits and abstract proposals.

Qualifications Essential
* Full GMC Registration
* MBBS or equivalent
* Medicine at core trainee (IMT2 level or equivalent)
* Full MRCP or equivalent
Desirable
* Higher degree e.g. MD or PhD
Knowledge and Experience Essential
* Previous experience of General Medicine at SHO level
* Evidence of achievement of ST1/2 competencies
* Experience in Respiratory Medicine at SHO or equivalent
Desirable
* Previous experience in Respiratory Medicine will be an added advantage but not essential
* NHS experience
