The Role
The Safeguarding Children in Need team is a multi-disciplinary team that works directly with families who are identified as Children in Need under Section 17 of the Children Act 1989.
The service operates across three geographical pods: Redditch and Wychavon. Children in need cases will ordinarily transfer from Locality Safeguarding unless they are no recourse to public funds, designated CIN LA or SGO support plans which may also transfer from the assessment teams or initial contact team.
Children in Need who we work with and support include:
* Children who have stepped down from a child protection plan and consent to ongoing support via a child in need plan.
* A child who is privately fostered.
* Children on a Supervision Order (excluding interim orders).
* Children on a Special Guardianship Order with a support plan where specific tasks as a child in need cannot be managed at level 3 need by the Early Help Family Support team.
* Children whose family has no recourse to public funds or resettlement families.
* Babies who were part of the pre-birth pathway and are now born and have been safely living with that assessed parent for a minimum of 3 months and are not subject to a CP or LPM and need support as CIN.
* Section 7 and 37 private law proceedings that are not managed by the Court Progression Officers.
* A child under 18 years of age who is pregnant or has a baby and they both have level 4 needs as children in Need.
Transfer process: The LCS transfer episode will be completed by the transferring locality/team. This will identify the type of child in need case and the date of the next CIN review meeting or a proposed transfer point/date.
The Advanced Social Worker for that pod will review the transfer request and respond within 5 working days to the allocated worker/Team Manager by either:
1. Agreeing attendance at the next CIN meeting to resume case responsibility.
2. Agreeing a transfer point which supports the family and avoids delay wherever possible.
