Duties/Responsibilities:
The RN Quality Improvement Coordinator is responsible for creating and sustaining exceptional patient experiences and outcomes by driving quality metrics and performance improvement through effective relationship building. This includes metrics such as the AHRQ Patient Safety Indicators, Expected Complication Rate Index, Risk-Adjusted Mortality Index, Hospital-Acquired Conditions, Core Measures, Pay for Reporting, Value Based Purchasing, Meaningful Use and others.
This position will serve as a subject-matter expert for publicly-reported data, including IQR, OQR, IPFQR, Mass Health, TJC, e-CQMs, Registry data (GWTG, NCDR) and others as indicated. Essential responsibilities include supporting Q-Centrix data abstraction processes, accurately abstracting clinical information for (OFI’s) from various sources using approved specifications for Core Measure, e-CQM, registries, and other required reporting.
The RN Quality Improvement Coordinator supports quality improvement activities by collecting, reporting, and analyzing data; is responsible for providing project management and facilitation, as well as clinical support for the development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of quality improvement initiatives. This includes participating in relevant task forces/committees, reviewing evidence-based literature, researching best practices, national and regional benchmarks, and industry standards.
Translates data into reports and information for presentation to appropriate teams/committees and provides education programs as necessary. Establishes indicators for monitoring and evaluation of quality and appropriateness of care, continuous improvement, medical record review, and tracking/trending performance to achieve targeted goals. Maintains confidentiality at all times.
The QI Coordinator assists in achieving compliance with regulatory and accrediting agency standards; assists with the implementation of a comprehensive Continuous Quality Improvement Plan in accordance with Federal, State regulations and TJC accreditation standards. Assists in the development of corrective action plans that may include revisions to policies and procedures.
Supports the implementation and maintenance of the Hospital-wide PI/Patient Safety/PCA Program and provides an assessment of programs, initiatives, and interventions to determine the effectiveness of activities and makes recommendations to improve outcomes.
Upholds departmental standards for productivity, data validity, integrity, reliability, and deadlines. Demonstrates working knowledge of quality management/performance improvement concepts; monitors and analyzes outcomes to ensure goals, objectives, outcomes, accreditation, and regulatory requirements are met.
Maintains current knowledge and education in quality management and associated areas by attending educational conferences, reading educational materials, internet sites, and other pertinent information and research.
Promotes teamwork and collaboration among team members and other stakeholders; uses appropriate meeting management and performance improvement tools and techniques to achieve group objectives. Ensures team activities are reported to the appropriate stakeholders for review and follow-up.
Education/Experience Required:
* Bachelor's degree in nursing required.
* Master’s degree in a healthcare-related field required.
* Current Massachusetts RN licensure required.
* 5 to 7 years of progressive experience working in compliance, quality assurance/improvement, accreditation, customer service, or similar roles within a healthcare setting.
* Complex project management experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
* Knowledge of accreditation, federal and state regulations/requirements.
* Excellent analytical skills necessary for preparing reports, devising solutions, and implementing changes in a healthcare setting.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Knowledge of Quality/Performance Improvement methodology and design; demonstrates ability to use PI tools and techniques effectively.
* Team player who builds effective working relationships.
* Ability to work independently.
* Organizational skills - Able to organize and prioritize work appropriately.
* Facilitation skills.
* Personal computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office software including proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Project; Meditech and MIDAS.
* Ability to analyze, interpret, apply, and communicate policies, procedures, and regulations.
* Demonstrate ability to strongly embrace and personify the mission of the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Plymouth.
Registration/Certification:
CPHQ certification preferred.
