Mechanical Design Engineer Location: Coventry Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 per annum Hours: Monday – Thursday: 8:00am – 4:30pm Friday: 8:00am – 3:30pm Our client, an established Coventry-based engineering company, is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team. The role involves designing CNC machinery and associated components, managing design activities, and improving existing designs to enhance quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Key Requirements: HNC/HND in Mechanical Design (preferred). Experience in machine tool design (CNC machinery). Strong background in 3D CAD design, preferably using Autodesk Inventor (other CAD software considered). Knowledge of materials and manufacturing techniques. Ability to calculate forces, stress, inertia, torque, ball screw and bearing loadings. Experience with complex machine assemblies, mechanisms, and tooling design. Understanding of geometric & dimensional tolerances and FEA (desirable). Key Responsibilities: Create 3D designs from initial concepts, including 2D engineering drawings and BOMs for manufacture. Take ownership of design activities within the department. Manage CAD systems and MRP databases, ensuring all documentation meets ISO standards and company procedures. Improve and update existing designs to standardise components, reduce assembly times, and lower costs. Design new products such as CNC grinding machines, spindle heads, rotary tables, ball screw-driven tables, and loading mechanisms. Design machine enclosures, fluid systems, hydraulic & pneumatic services, lubrication, and cooling systems. Perform 3D CAD modelling and 2D drafting on Autodesk Inventor (or similar software). Ensure all designs conform to safety and legal requirements. Manage task assignments within the department, including mentoring junior design engineers.
