Strive Supply Chain are a leading management recruitment consultancy, specialising in Supply Chain, Production, Planning, Logistics, Transport & Warehouse Operations. Our client is a leading FMCG Distribution business, who are currently recruiting for a Head of Workshop (VMU) at their head office in Lancaster. As Head of Workshop you will ensure that the Company's Distribution and Vehicle Fleet operation is legal & compliant, organised, monitored and controlled efficiently. The Head of Workshop (VMU) is accountable for a National Fleet of over 150 vehicles and 160 trailers with a 24/7, 365 days operation, therefore a flexible approach to hours will be required.
Duties of the Head of Workshop (VMU) include but are not limited to:
1. Leading, Managing and motivating a team including managing attendance, productivity and conduct
2. Setting and monitoring achievement of team KPIs for National Fleet Operations
3. Building an own fleet and customer focused team environment
4. Managing a team of 40 Maintenance Technicians
5. Improve existing and further develop office-based work processes and procedures
6. Monitor and minimise all areas of costs by receiving and inputting data efficiently and applying strict controls on all expenditure in-line with set budgetary targets
7. Awareness of expenditure issues and formulating professional working relationship with all suppliers
8. Monitor Distribution Department policies and procedures relating to vehicle maintenance and maximising vehicle utilisation
9. Consistently monitor OCRS maintenance system to identify the strengths and any weakness within the vehicle maintenance operation
10. Responsible for maintaining all legalities, Health & Safety and HACCP controls in accordance with rules and procedures within the Vehicle Maintenance Department
11. Ensuring adequate staffing and contractor levels to maintain the Company standards and legal obligations throughout the vehicle maintenance operation
12. Oversee the investigation of all accidents/defects and take action as appropriate and that any suspicious incidents are reported to the Directors and Operational Management
13. Regularly auditing National Fleet to ensure compliance and legal requirements.
14. Representing the National Fleet department at meetings
The Ideal Candidate for National Fleet Manager:
1. Excellent knowledge of EU legislation, VOSA & DVSA regulations
2. Managing external 3rd party contracts
3. Procurement of vehicles and trailers / Tenders for suppliers
4. Recognised Apprenticeship in HGV Mechanics (e.g. City & Guilds)
5. Technical ability to understand, support and diagnose vehicle defects/problems
6. Experience of IRTE and Scania working procedures and systems/processes
7. Leadership in processes to ensure Audit status is maintained
8. Experience of managing budgets
