Role Overview:
As the Head of Spanish Department, you will have the opportunity to lead a team of talented educators, drive the development of the Spanish curriculum, and foster a positive and collaborative teaching environment. In addition to your leadership duties, you will also be responsible for teaching Spanish to students across various age groups, ensuring they receive high-quality lessons that engage, challenge, and support their language development.
Key Responsibilities:
Department Leadership:
1. Lead and manage the Spanish department, providing guidance and support to colleagues.
2. Ensure the department delivers a high standard of teaching and learning.
3. Monitor and assess the progress and performance of students within the department.
4. Develop and implement innovative teaching strategies and initiatives.
5. Oversee curriculum development and the alignment of Spanish courses with national standards.
6. Manage department resources, including textbooks, digital resources, and other materials.
7. Promote extracurricular activities related to Spanish, such as clubs, trips, or cultural events.
Teaching Responsibilities:
1. Deliver engaging and effective lessons across different year groups.
2. Provide differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of all learners.
3. Prepare students for exams and assessments, ensuring they reach their full potential.
4. Track and monitor student progress, providing feedback and support.
5. Contribute to the development of school-wide initiatives and teaching programs.
6. Act as a role model for students in terms of academic and behavioural standards.
Requirements:
1. A qualified teacher with a degree in Spanish, Modern Languages, or a related subject.
2. QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or equivalent.
3. Proven experience in teaching Spanish across multiple age groups, including KS3 and KS4 (KS5 desirable).
4. Previous experience as a Head of Department or in a leadership role within a department is preferred, but not essential.
5. Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
6. Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with staff, students, and parents.
7. A passion for the Spanish language and culture, and a commitment to promoting languages in the school community.
8. High level of organizational and time-management skills.
