We are seeking an experienced Senior Buyer to join a Tier 1 contractor working on the civil aspects of the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) East framework. This multi-billion-pound programme of railway improvements aims to transform passenger journeys across the Pennines between Manchester, Huddersfield, Leeds, and York.
About the role of Senior Buyer:
As a Senior Buyer, you will be responsible for managing procurement activities across a wide scope of works, including trackside, civils, depots, and embankment upgrades. With offices in Leeds and York city centres and flexible on-site options in locations such as Huddersfield and Manchester, this role offers hybrid working with three days spent in the office or on-site and the rest being output-driven. This is a fantastic opportunity for a driven Senior Buyer to make a significant impact on a major infrastructure programme.
Responsibilities for Senior Buyer:
Managing procurement activities and ensuring compliance with NEC contracts
Procuring rail-related subcontract packages, ensuring value for money and quality standards
Collaborating with project teams to understand requirements and align procurement strategies
Negotiating contracts and managing supplier relationships
Providing guidance and support to ensure cost-efficient and timely delivery of materials and services
Preparing and presenting procurement reports to key stakeholdersRequirements for Senior Buyer:
Proven experience as a Senior Buyer, ideally within the rail or infrastructure sector
Strong knowledge of NEC contracts and subcontract procurement processes
Experience working with Tier 1 contractors is highly desirable
Background in rail subcontract procurement is essential
A driven and proactive individual with excellent negotiation and communication skills
