Alder Hey Childrens NHS FoundationTrust are currently seeking an experienced Orthopaedic Technician to provide a highquality service for patients within the Orthopaedic Outpatients department.
Main duties of the job
1. Casting for all types of fractures
2. Positioning and moulding of casts for fractures
3. Serial casting for idiopathic toe walking, Perthes Disease and spinal deformities
4. Casting for children with DDH (hip spicas)
5. Wedging of cast
6. Removal a K wires

Job responsibilities
7. Provide patient centred casting fororthopaedic outpatients
8. Carry out a full range of plaster techniquesboth routine and complex including specialist and synthetic casts as well asresting/functional splinting, casting bracing and focused rigidity casting
9. Be responsible for supporting the patientduring cast application and removal and will ensure patients are givenappropriate advice re care of their cast and splint
10. Have enhanced additional support from the SeniorPlaster Technician and registered Nurses
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
11. BOA/RCN (SON) AOT Diploma in casting techniques/British Casting Certificate.
12. Willingness to expand role & skills to meet the needs of children and families attending the plaster room.
13. Demonstrates a commitment to continuous professional develop-ment
14. Knowledge of human anatomy & physiology relevant to orthopaedics
15. Able to work effectively as an em-powered member of the multi-disciplinary team
16. Aware of professional responsibili-ties in the management and treat-ment of patients.
Desirable
17. Experience of working in an acute hospital environment.
18. Evidence of enthusiasm, flexibility and commitment for team ethos.
