An opportunity has arisen for the appointment of a Senior Clinical Fellow in the Departments of Upper Gastrointestinal (Oesophagogastric) and Bariatric Surgery, at Salford Royal Hospital. This is a 12 month post which will provide an opportunity for the appointee to learn and develop subspecialty-level skill in the management of Oesophagogastric cancer and Bariatric Surgery. This post would be suitable for a Post CCT SpR or for a SpR (ST 7&8) who wish to take Out of Programme Experience (OOPE).
Within the Department of Surgery there are Specialist Registrars, Foundation 1 and 2 doctors, and Trust appointed Clinical Fellows who underpin the inpatient and outpatient work of the Consultant cohort.
The Upper GI team has 3 SpRs, 2 Clinical fellows (registrar level), 2 FY2 and 3 FY1 doctors. The colorectal team have 3 SpR's, 2 clinical fellow (registrar level), FY2 / SHO grade and FY1 doctors to support the colorectal team.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will be expected to participate fully in the provision of work within the UGI department, including OG on-call.
It is proposed that the appointee will provide 10 PA's per week (9 PA's DCC and 1 SPA) which will include outpatient clinics, operating theatre lists, endoscopy lists and administration. Attendance is required at regular team meetings which will have a clinical governance aspect and participating in Audit.
The post-holder will be expected to take a lead role in ensuring delivery of a quality service and contribute to the ongoing improvement of the clinical service.
The appointee will share in the departmental administrative duties including the supervision of junior staff.
Along with other Directorate colleagues the appointee will be expected to provide clinical leadership and co-ordinate the constituents of the multi-disciplinary team.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full registration with the General Medical Council
* ALS or equivalent
* MRCS Part A
* CCrISP
* ATLS
* Basic Surgical Skills
Experience, skills and knowledge
* Post Registration - at least 2 years
* Previous SHO level on-call experience
Circumstances
* Agree to live an appropriate distance from the respective Trusts, optimally giving access by motorway in the equivalent travelling time period as 20 road miles
Academic Achievement
* Quality Improvement or Audit experience
* Involvement in research or training in research methodology
