Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you’ll do at work
Responsibilities:
* Learning how to manufacture, repair and service our products.
* Working safely under the company's Health and Safety guidelines.
* Ensure a high standard of housekeeping is maintained in all work areas, including the engineering workshop and customer premises.
* Carry out any safety or quality compliance checks before and after the production or installation of the product.
* Carry out electrical and mechanical checks and repairs ensuring the system remains in good working order.
* Learn both the electrical and mechanical elements of machinery and site-based equipment and product.
* Identify potential improvements to equipment and communicate these to the site.
* Reading engineering drawings.
* Ensure the security of all engineering stores, tools, and equipment.
* Wiring PLC systems, Fire Panels, Linen Chutes,
* Design, Assembly and Commissioning.
* Support any Engineers when necessary.

Please note: You will need to travel one day per week to Milton Keynes College for qualification training and four days per week to the employer's workplace in Dunstable.
This role may allow the successful candidate to start earlier than the potential start date.

* Reading, interpreting and understanding the component or assembly specification, diagrams, drawings and work instructions.
* Planning component or assembly task – materials, tools and equipment.
* Preparing work area for component or assembly task; sourcing required resources, tools and equipment.
* Carry out relevant planning and preparation activities before commencing work activity and know how to source required resources and interpret detailed drawings, specifications and job instructions.
* Checking tools during and after task completion; identifying and reporting defects.
* Measuring and testing, checking or inspecting component or assembly for example; use of micrometers, verniers, multimeters, voltmeter.
* Problem solving; analysing the issue and fixing the issue where appropriate.
* Applying improvement techniques; recommending or implementing solutions where appropriate.
* Communicating with colleagues or customers (internal or external).
* Completing component or assembly documentation for example job instructions, drawings, quality control documentation.
* Reporting work outcomes or issues.
* Restoring the work area on completion of the activity; returning any resources and consumables to the appropriate location and house-keeping.
* Disposing of waste in accordance with waste streams; re-cycling, re-using where appropriate.
* Operating within limits of responsibility.

Potential training: Manual Handling, First Aid training and H&S Training.
You’ll be working towards your Engineering Fitter Apprenticeship with attendance to Milton Keynes College.

Essential qualifications
GCSE or equivalent in:
* 5 GCSE's including Maths & English (grade 4)
