Our CLient is a market leading designer and manufacturer organisation based in Hampshire, offering a variety of solutions to a variety of sectors. They are a diverse and inclusive family of scientists, mechanical and electrical design engineers, manufacturing experts and business people who work to deliver new ways for the world to solve problems and protect the environment. There has never been a better time to them as they grow and prepare for the future. They are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join the team and help us create the next generation of innovative and technologically complex instruments and systems for challenging and interesting applications. Responsibilities Scientific instrumentation design from concept to final product Engineering documentation Manufacturing support Customer liaison Product test and on site commissioning Who would be a good fit? Becoming the next Mechanical Design Engineer means joining a small and dedicated team of engineers and scientists. First and foremost, they are looking for a true someone who not only has a natural grasp of mechanics and mechanical principals, but someone who can seamlessly translate theory into a product that works well in the field and delivers an attractive and user friendly solution to their customers. In addition to assisting with design work from concept through to medium volume manufacture, you will also be comfortable with standard drawing office requirements for build standard control and change note implementation as required. Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need a knowledge of fundamental engineering principles Applicants should hold a degree in Mechanical Engineering (2.1 or higher) from a recognised University and must be able to demonstrate the requisite level of design ability and a sound engineering knowledge base. Technical Skills You will naturally pay significant attention to detail and have a keen understanding and appreciation of the importance of tolerances, safety factors, component specifications, materials selection, testing and build standard control as well as working knowledge of components, suppliers and processes. The technical team of scientists, software developers and electronics and mechanical engineers, all work closely together to produce innovative and cutting edge scientific products for their customers around the world, however, no design can be manufactured and supported without the necessary technical documentation, so it is essential that any prospective candidate understands or can show evidence of having produced component and assembly drawings to a recognised standard. You will be adept at understanding and producing detailed standard engineering drawings. They are keen to hear from candidates who can use and understand technical language with ease and who will feel comfortable having technical conversations with other engineers from different disciplines, whilst conveying their ideas concisely and coherently. Personal Skills As well as being an excellent graduate mechanical engineer, you should be a self starter. Whilst we do have a supportive team whom you can learn from, the role requires a person who has the initiative and determination. Supervision and direction will be available from within the team. The team works closely together (and often toward tight timescales) to produce bespoke design solutions, or resolve technical issues for our customers, and they are looking for a collaborative, personable team player who is excited to work within a small, diverse, multi-disciplinary group Security Clearance Security clearance will be applied for on appointment UK passport holders (no dual nationals) only plus proof of residency in UK for last 5 years.
