Introducing Patrick
Patrick, born in 1944, is looking for a Support Worker to join his existing 24-hour care team based in Gosport. Patrick sustained a brain injury in a road traffic collision in 2016. He lives in his own home with his wife and their shared family dog. Prior to his injury, Patrick achieved a black belt in Karate and remains an active member of his local karate club today. Patrick would describe himself as friendly, talkative and jokey! He enjoys meeting his neighbour, meeting up with friends/family, going shopping and attending his local Headway group.
Patrick uses a wheeled Zimmer frame to get around indoors with close supervision and an attendant wheelchair outside with a battery pack for assistance. He requires supervision, prompting and assistance with all aspects of personal, domestic, social and leisure activities due to cognitive and physical limitations resulting from his brain injury.
During the day, the Support Worker will provide hands-on care including personal care (washing, dressing and toileting), ongoing rehabilitation, assisting with domestic tasks and will help Patrick to access social and leisure activities at home and in his local and wider community. During the night, the Support Worker will assist Patrick to take his medication and get him ready for bed, attending to his care needs as required throughout the night, which include making him comfortable and assisting with toileting requirements and managing his catheter.
This is a wonderful opportunity to join a supportive family and care team where you can make a real difference to Patrick’s life by maximising his opportunities and promoting his independence wherever possible, a truly rewarding role for someone who is able to communicate effectively and has the ability to work with patience, tact, understanding, warmth and compassion.
