Salary: £32,850 to £48,050 (United Learning Pay structure)

Role Summary
To contribute to the development of a strong, effective academy with an emphasis on promoting a culture of educational excellence within a caring and secure environment enriched with the values of discipline, mutual care and respect which extends beyond the academy into the wider community.
The post-holder will share and support the academy and United Learning’s ethos and culture toward providing and monitoring opportunities for personal and academic growth and support the Head of Department.

Plan and teach well-structured lessons
21. Impart knowledge and develop understanding through effective use of lesson time

23. Set homework and plan out-of-class activities to consolidate and extend the knowledge and understanding students have acquired;

Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all students
26. Have a secure understanding of how a range of factors can inhibit students’ ability to learn and how best to overcome these;
27. Demonstrate an awareness of the physical, social and intellectual development of children, and know how to adapt teaching to support students’ education at different stages of development;
28. Have a clear understanding of the needs of all students, including those with special educational needs; those with high ability; those with English as an additional language; those with disabilities; and be able to use and evaluate distinctive teaching approaches to engage and support them;
29. Know when and how to differentiate appropriately, using approaches which enable.
Make accurate and productive use of assessment
30. Know and understand how to assess the relevant subject and curriculum areas, including statutory assessment requirements;
31. Make use of formative and summative assessment to secure students’ progress;
32. Use relevant data to monitor progress, set targets, and plan subsequent lessons;
33. Give students regular feedback, both orally and through accurate marking, and encourage students to respond to the feedback.
Manage behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment
34. Have clear rules and routines for behaviour in classrooms, and take responsibility for promoting good and courteous behaviour both in classrooms and around the school, in accordance with the school’s behaviour policy;
35. Have high expectations of behaviour, and establish a framework for discipline with a range of strategies, using praise, sanctions and rewards consistently and fairly;
36. Manage classes effectively, using approaches which are appropriate to students’ needs in order to involve and motivate them;
37. Maintain good relationships with students, exercise appropriate authority and act decisively where necessary.
Fulfil wider professional responsibilities
38. Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school
39. Develop effective professional relationships with colleagues, knowing how and when to draw on advice and specialist support

42. Contribute to the development of courses and schemes of work
43. To use student data to plan lessons to meet the needs of the students
44. To mark and assess students’ work and to record their development, progress and attainment
45. To develop effective teaching and learning strategies to raise attainment
46. To monitor the progress of students including those in the tutor group
47. To maintain an attractive and stimulating classroom environment, and to contribute to displays in the school as a whole.
48. To use ICT and in particular the VLE in raising the quality of teaching and learning
49. To take part in whole school reviews of policy and aims, and in the revision of formulation of guidelines.
The post-holder will require an enhanced DBS check.
