As Commercial Director, you will be responsible for developing and executing the company's commercial strategy, driving revenue growth, and enhancing profitability. This role requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of the latent defect insurance market, exceptional leadership skills, and a proven track record in underwriting and commercial management.
The Commercial Director is responsible for overseeing the Commercial Division within MD Group, comprising the following functions:
* Technical Underwriting
* Quote Generation Unit
* Marketing
This role will lead the development and implementation of the strategic direction and focus of the division with respect to markets, business development, and customer service, to support MD Group in delivering on its ‘2025 and beyond ambitions’ for profitable growth and market-leading customer experience. The role will provide motivational leadership to the division’s leadership team and team members.
You will work closely with the Operations Director in partnership to monitor product performance and enhancement opportunities; identify product innovation opportunities and agree plans for their development; and ensure required underwriting standards are clearly articulated and embedded across the underwriting teams.
The Commercial Director, in partnership with the Director of Surveyor Operations and Director of Building Control, will co-ordinate strategic growth, pricing, and retention initiatives to meet field capacity and appetite along with new services and value-add consultancy propositions.
Critical to success in this role, the Commercial Director will champion together with HR and TM&D, a strong emphasis on diversity, talent, and career development for team members as a great and inclusive place to work.
As a member of the Executive Leadership team of the MD Group, the Commercial Director will contribute to wider organisational strategy and effective operational decision-making.
Your Skills and Experience:
• Proven leadership experience in previous roles with extensive Commercial, Underwriting, and pricing experience.
• Effective stakeholder management in a matrix reporting line environment; ability to quickly build relationships and establish credibility.
• Ability to lead the development and interpretation of numerical trends and analysis, identify key issues based on this information to enable well-informed business decisions.
• Ability to communicate across all levels and articulate complex topics in a simple and easy-to-understand manner.
• Good knowledge and understanding of the business, economic, and market environment in which non-life property carriers operate.
• Awareness and understanding of the main risks facing the identified insurance sector and ability to lead a team to identify, assess, monitor, control, and mitigate risks.
• Awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework, and the regulatory requirements in which the Company operates and the expectations relevant to the Commercial Director role.

Qualifications and Educational Requirements:
• Degree level education or equivalent relevant industry experience.
