Who You Are You are an experienced grounds operative with the ability to work independently, possess a valid driving license, and have skills in using machinery such as tractors and their attachments. You have a background in gardening or grounds maintenance and are knowledgeable about Health and Safety regulations, safe working practices, and the use of pesticides. You can effectively liaise with colleagues and the public, embodying teamwork and communication skills in both Welsh and English. Ideally, you are familiar with NPTC PA6A and First Aid, although these are not mandatory. You ensure personal protective equipment is always used, maintain equipment to be roadworthy, and comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. What the job involves The role involves maintaining high standards in grounds upkeep across public parks, schools, playing fields, landscaped areas, and similar open spaces. Your responsibilities include grass cutting, hedge trimming, maintenance of sports areas, cleaning of public buildings, parks, and playgrounds, and managing equipment inspections in accordance with departmental policies. You will set out and mark sports fields, using skills such as plan interpretation and construction. You must work independently to direct trainees and other employees, utilize handheld and powered tools, and ensure all machinery is in good condition. During the winter months, the role requires working 31 hours weekly, increasing to 43 hours in spring and summer. You report to the Grounds Environmental Supervisor and are responsible for resources of significant nature. No DBS check is required for this post.
