Balfour Beatty Kilpatrick have a fantastic opportunity to join their team as a Head of Commercial to provide leadership and governance to the Commercial function. The role will drive and maximise the profitability of the BBK Business Unit, capitalising on opportunities and playing a pivotal role in the strategic commercial direction of the business in order to optimise commercial performance. The ideal candidate will demonstrate and promote collaborative behaviour and be able to clearly define and implement BBK's commercial strategy to deliver future growth. What you'll be doing Ensure the successful commercial performance at Business Unit (BU) level. Own, develop and execute commercial strategy specific to the BU, and contributing to the development of overall commercial strategy for BBK. Identify opportunities for income and margin (commercial value creation) for the BU. Build and manage effective, strategic relationships (internal and external) to achieve high levels of customer satisfaction. Provide commercial assurance at BU level, through forecasting and identification of issues giving rise to commercial risk. Manage and develop a proactive, industry leading commercial partnering team, allocating the appropriate level of skilled commercial resource to meet business needs. Effective resolution of complex disputes across the BU. Oversee commercial audit and compliance and identifying areas for continuous improvement in processes. Lead excellence in quality, drive continuous improvement in process and ensure full compliance with legal and company requirements. Act as a role model in the proactive leadership of the behavioural safety programme and Sustainability Roadmap. Play a lead role in demonstrating the Balfour Beatty Values. Drive the continuous development of commercial best practice within the Alliance. Target costs for each year (joint effort with Head of Finance and Commercial). Final accounts for each year. Lead and enable a culture of high performance across all teams. Who we're looking for The ability to operate successfully in a commercial environment, possessing the business acumen needed to develop BU commercial opportunity to beat budget. An expert level of understanding of Contract Law and Insurances. Expert knowledge of differing standard forms of contract. An expert knowledge of risk management. An expert knowledge of the management of company accounts. Expert level knowledge and understanding of sub-contracting principles. Ability to provide strategic contract and commercial advice to Director level. Expert negotiation and influencing skills. People management skills, with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels. Successful track record at a senior level in an equivalent environment (at BU level). Experience of financial and commercial control at a BU level. Experience of dispute resolution. Full membership of a recognised professional institute (e.g. RICS or CICES) preferred. Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC and/or large scale infrastructure experience is desirable.
