Calling all early birds We are looking for a part time Breakfast chef / cook to join our friendly team at The Washington Guesthouse (15 hours per week). This part time Breakfast Chef role would suit someone who has good cooking skills, capable of producing a full English breakfast (we all know how important a good breakfast is to start the day) Your training need not be professional - confident home cooks who have a passion for a good English breakfast will be welcomed. In-house training can be offered if required. If you’re an early bird looking to have afternoons and evenings free for family commitments, these morning hours may suit perfectly Details of the Breakfast Chef role: 15 hours per week, to include weekends on rotation - usually worked over 4 early morning shifts per week Additional hours are available on occasion to cover holiday etc Starting at 6am on weekdays and 7am on weekends - an average 'shift' is 3.5 - 4 hours long so you'll be finished by 9.30am - 10.30am on most days £12.50 per hour There will be some independent work and some work with a Kitchen Assistant Food hygiene and food allergen training and certificates can be arranged for those who do not have them and will be refreshed as needed What does a typical day as Breakfast Chef look like? You will get in and start cooking the food that has been prepped for you the day before - this could be cooking off sausages, mushrooms, bacon, hash browns and keeping them hot in preparation for the orders you will get. Breakfast starts at 7am on weekdays and 8am on weekends so you have an hour to cook and 'hot hold' food before guests start coming in. Eggs are prepared to order and all food is plated by you in the kitchen (no chafing dishes). The friendly breakfast team front of house will take orders and deliver food and the Kitchen porter will wash up plates, pots and pans, so it is just the cooking that you would need to concentrate on. Once breakfast service has finished, you'll prepare the food for the following day, clear down and get off home to enjoy the rest of your day What skills to you need to be successful as Breakfast Chef? You'll need to be reliable as you will be opening the kitchen in the morning and will be the first person in. You may be someone who likes routine and is happy starting early and finishing early - enabling you to focus on non-work activities for the rest of the day You'll also need to be confident and keep a cool head when things get busy. Knowledge of safe processes and good food hygiene practices is imperative. We do anything from 20 - 50 cooked breakfasts on a daily basis so you'll also need to be able to work methodically to ensure each dish goes out perfectly Application process: To apply, please send your CV via the 'apply now' link.
