Due to business growth and expansion of the engineering team, a position has opened for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a highly respected business specializing in advanced systems for electric and autonomous vehicles. This role offers the opportunity to be involved in projects from concept through to production, where your contributions will be integral to the success of both the projects and the company.
The Role
In this high-profile position, you'll lead and contribute to design engineering activities, balancing hands-on technical work with project management responsibilities. You'll take ownership of the design process, from creating and reviewing 3D models and 2D drawings to managing design validation and ensuring compliance with industry standards.
You'll be a key player in ensuring customer expectations are exceeded, risks are managed, and technical challenges are solved effectively. You'll also have the opportunity to engage directly with stakeholders across the business and beyond, maintaining clear and positive communication throughout.
What You'll Do
1. Lead and contribute to the design and development of innovative solutions for automotive systems.
2. Use CAE tools and analysis-led design approaches to meet cost, weight, and quality targets.
3. Collaborate with production, quality, and supply chain teams to ensure all deliverables are met.
4. Manage project risks, resolve issues proactively, and drive the achievement of key deliverables.
5. Liaise directly with suppliers and customers, maintaining excellent communication and reporting progress effectively.
6. Ensure compliance with ISO9001, ISO14001, and TS16949 standards.
What We're Looking For
1. A minimum of 3 years of experience in automotive design and development.
2. A degree in Engineering or equivalent experience demonstrating strong mechanical, electrical, or mechatronic design skills.
3. Excellent communication and organisational skills, with a proactive and detail-focused approach.
4. Experience with 3D CAD (Autodesk Inventor preferred), FEA (NASTRAN/Ansys beneficial), and CFD tools.
5. Knowledge of BS8888 drawing standards and ISO26262 exposure is advantageous.
6. Previous project engineering experience or experience within an automotive supplier/engineering service provider is beneficial.
