Chy is a residential rehabilitation unit in Truro, providing drug, alcohol and mental health treatment services to some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people in society. We have an 18-bed main property and a further 8 beds in a block of flats on the grounds that are used as ‘move on’ accommodation for those with more specific therapeutic needs. Chy welcomes people from all over the UK who wish to heal, grow and make changes to their lives. Many of the people who come to us have experienced multiple traumas and are living with acute mental health support needs. This is an exciting time to join the team following a year of developments and improvements to the services offered.
You will be joining a team of passionate people, with the opportunity to work alongside a multi-disciplinary team of person-centred counsellors and a psychoanalytic art therapist. As a Residential Support Worker, you will support our residents to engage in activities that develop their independent living skills such as cooking, cleaning, shopping, and most importantly, learning to have fun in their sobriety. There will be the opportunity to co-facilitate workshops around basic life skills and goal-setting.
We are looking for someone who has experience of working or volunteering with substance misuse clients ideally in a residential setting.
Diversity Statement
As an organisation, we continue to build an inclusive culture that encourages, supports and celebrates the diverse voices and experiences of our staff. We know that representing the communities we serve is key to us meeting our goals of radically improving people's lives. We welcome the unique contributions that you can bring and we encourage people from underrepresented communities and backgrounds to apply to join our team, including people with lived experience, people with disabilities, people from racialised communities, LGBTQ+ people, people of all ages and armed forces veterans.
Required Skills
To successfully carry out this role you will need to be:
1. Energetic and enthusiastic, with a willingness to get involved
2. Empathic towards the different needs of our residents
3. A driver, with a full UK driving licence and access to the use of a vehicle
4. Flexible and willing to work a range of shifts, including weekends and sleep-ins
5. Qualified to OCN/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent or willing to achieve this within 12 months
6. Able to demonstrate experience of working or volunteering in the health, social care, criminal justice or other specialist setting, with a successful track record of working with substance misuse clients
7. Knowledge and understanding of health and safety, including assessing high-risk situations for service users
8. Experience of working in a residential setting
Should you be successful in your application, you will be required to provide 3 years worth of references and where applicable, will need to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
