Wentworth James Group has engaged with a key client and a leader in Design, Manufacturer & Installation of Steel Process Machinery. Due to project and team growth, a new opportunity has arisen for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join on a permanent basis. This position will be office-based, with some remote working arrangements possible. A background in process or plant equipment would be highly advantageous to hit the ground running.
Outline of the Ideal Candidate:
1. An experienced mechanical design engineer from the metal processing (bashing) industry for heavy capital equipment.
2. Knowledge of tube lines, slitting lines, and heavy fabrications would be preferred.
3. Must have the ability to take control of projects and work under the guidance of the Chief Engineer to deliver quality engineering solutions.
4. Understanding of Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD for 2D/3D modelling are essential.
5. A knowledge of hydraulics and electrics would be beneficial, but not essential.
The ideal candidate must have the ability to take control of small projects, delivering quality engineering solutions and drawings for the manufacture of steel processing machinery, while working alongside a team of mechanical engineers under the guidance of the Chief Engineer.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Design and conceptual work for a range of tube straightening equipment, as well as ancillary handling equipment.
2. Create mechanical drawings to industry standards for manufacturing purposes.
3. Make design decisions, such as tolerances and bearings, not simply detailing work.
4. Work alongside the Chief Engineer to ensure engineering deadlines are met.
5. Collaborate with various departments to ensure engineering requirements are achieved in accordance with contract commitments.
6. Provide engineering support to overseas manufacturers right through to client handover.
7. Liaise with clients and suppliers on an as-needed basis, likely involving cooperation with our US office on shared projects.
Requirements:
1. Mechanical engineering experience.
2. Experience in the metal processing (bashing) industry for heavy capital equipment is highly advantageous.
3. Demonstrated ability to work in an engineering drawing office, preferably with experience working on design projects from conceptualization through to manufacture and delivery.
4. AutoCAD 2D and Inventor 3D are essential.
5. Knowledge of hydraulics and electrics is beneficial, but not essential.
6. A degree or HNC qualification (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering is advantageous, but not essential.
