Vattenfall Customer & Solutions Projects Team develops and implements all of Vattenfall's new-build heating plant projects in conventional and emerging technologies. Our Engineering Department consists of an international team of highly qualified engineers from different disciplines and is responsible for the development and execution of the technical project workstream.
For each project, a team of engineers is selected. This team manages the technical solution development, execution processes and coordinates the installation, commissioning and hand-over of the new plant to the future operator in consultation with the stakeholders. In addition, the Engineering Department supports the projects with schedule preparation, investment cost estimation, quality management and quality standards.
In order to support the development and implementation of our technical activities in an extensive project portfolio, we are looking to recruit a Piping & Layout Engineer for projects based in the UK.
What will you do?
As a Piping & Layout Engineer, your tasks are varied and are crucial to the success of a project.
Here are the key responsibilities:
* Preparation of general arrangement plans, site layout plans and construction phase plans for district heating plant projects in the preliminary and design planning phase (2D).
* Preparation of plans of the underground systems, integration of all infrastructural connections (district heating, electricity, fuel, water, waste water...), as well as interfaces of different tendering lots.
* Lead mechanical engineering tasks i.e. verification of stress calculations, corrosion prevention strategies and piping support design.
* Participation in the tendering and awarding of services in relation to own discipline (Piping & Layout).
* 2D and 3D model reviews of designs provided by engineering partners and contractors with regard to our internal quality standards and guidelines, constructability reviews, occupational health and safety (e.g. fire protection plans, escape and rescue routes, ATEX zoning), ergonomic requirements for operation & maintenance.
* Support quality, site management, commissioning, Health Safety Security & Environmental (HSSE), cost, scheduling and HSSE-in-Design with your expertise.
* Support continuous improvement of piping, layout and mechanical related quality standards and support adjustment of requirements to specific projects.
Qualifications
We are seeking a candidate with the following qualifications, knowledge and experience:
* UK Level 6 (Bachelors) OR Level 7 (Masters) university degree in Mechanical Engineering OR Level 5 technical qualification i.e. High National Diploma (HND) in Mechanical Engineering or similar subject and relevant technical experience.
* A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in engineering, procurement and construction within the industrial sector, preferably experience gained in oil & gas, energy, food, pharmaceutical or chemical industries.
* Proficy in English, with strong spoken and written communication skills.
* Robust knowledge of piping and layout engineering with significant practical experience gained from involvement in several industrial process engineering plant projects from initiation through realisation to handover to customer/client.
* Self-starting attitude and a strong focus on health & safety, and safety in design.
* Experience of building and maintaining good working relationships between future plant operator and contractor(s).
