Assistant Accountant
Full-time, Permanent - Pay: £32,000.00-£35,000.00 per annum

Main Purpose of the Job:
Reporting to the Head of Finance, the main purpose of the role is to support the overall day-to-day running of the Finance department, ensuring a seamless operation is executed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Take ownership of all aspects of Purchase Ledger transactions using Merlin
* Setting up new suppliers
* Posting supplier invoices
* Raising and making supplier payments through BACS
* Posting and reconciliation of staff expenses
* VAT reconciliation and quarterly submission
* Bank reconciliation
* Balance sheet reconciliation
* Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts
* Ability to interpret, challenge and analyse variances in the management accounts
* Posting accruals and prepayment journals
* Close monthly and yearly nominal ledgers
* Assist in preparation of annual budgets
* Collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders to drive best practices and process efficiencies
* Promote and drive strong relationships with the purchasing team as well as the rest of the business
* Recommend operational improvements
* Deliver accurate month-end reporting across 4 legal entities
* Assist in month-end analysis and commentary
* Maintain financial control ensuring compliance
Person Specification:
* Experience in a similar role
* Strong attention to detail
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Evidence of building and maintaining strong relationships with key business stakeholders
* Proficient in Microsoft Office particularly Excel
* Experience of using Merlin or similar applications
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Other Ad-Hoc as deemed necessary
Qualifications:
* AAT or equivalent
* Qualified by experience
* No-longer studying
Working Conditions:
* Office based role Monday – Friday
* 9am – 5pm with 30 minutes lunch break
* Monthly close outside normal office hours are a standard requirement in this role (this activity is not eligible for overtime)
