An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Strategy, Planning and Performance Team within the Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust.
The Trust is continuing in its commitment to deliver financially sustainable services and develop new ways of generating income via the Financial Sustainability Programme.
To support delivery of this strategy, the Trust has created a Head of Commercial Development role within the Strategy, Planning and Performance Directorate to enable the Trust’s commercial ambitions.
The Head of Commercial Development is a new role within the team that will be responsible for driving forward the Trust’s commercial strategy, directing and managing all the Trust’s activities concerned with new business development, including bids and tenders, the generation of new income streams, and (where applicable) to ensure the protection of current business which Commissioners may re-tender.
This is a fixed term role and is ideally suited to someone that is ambitious, adaptable, organised, and possesses strong interpersonal skills. The post holder will need to ensure the structures are in place to scope and assess.
Main duties of the job
This role will be responsible for driving forward the Trust’s commercial strategy, directing and managing all the Trust’s activities concerned with new business development, including bids and tenders, the generation of new income streams, and (where applicable) to ensure the protection of current business which Commissioners may re-tender.
The role will be responsible for developing the Trust’s overall commercial function, including infrastructure and approach to the above.
The main duties of the job are to ensure the Trust has a sustainable approach to delivering on its commercial strategy, commercial activity, and business development ambitions, in line with its Financial Sustainability objectives. The post holder will ensure the structures are in place to scope, assess, and manage the creation of new income streams using existing idea submission systems, market knowledge, and experience of commercial development in public sector organisations.

Qualifications & Knowledge
* The post-holder will have a theoretical and practical awareness of commercial development.
* Knowledge in training, coaching and mentoring staff across all levels of an organisation.
* The role requires a specialist level knowledge over more than one discipline, including but not restricted to: Marketing, Sales, Research and Development, Project Management, New Product Development, Financial Management, Performance Management, Procurement and Contracting, and Tendering/Bidding, and commercial training.
* Post-Masters continuous academic development, or equivalent experience.
Experience
* Substantial experience of business development and successfully leading bids for large complex tenders.
* Extensive experience in a commercially driven role with an emphasis on sales, marketing, new product development, and bidding.
* Experience in project management.
* Experience of independently leading and managing complex bid processes.
* Previous responsibility for delegated budgets.
* Experience of making formal presentations.
* Experience of managing external relationships at all levels.
