The Role
The Chief Powertrain Engineer role requires a dynamic leader with a technical background to oversee the design, development, and delivery of innovative powertrain systems in the motorcycle industry. As a key stakeholder, you will provide technical direction and leadership to multidisciplinary teams, ensuring project success from concept to production.
This position demands a strategic blend of technical expertise and leadership skills to drive results, build cohesive teams, and consistently deliver high-performance powertrain solutions that align with the company's goals.
Duties/Responsibilities
* Strategic Technical Oversight: Spearheaded the development and integration of advanced powertrain technologies, setting high standards for performance, efficiency, and reliability.
* Benchmarking Leadership: Direct comprehensive benchmarking of industry standards and competitor vehicles, identifying key performance metrics and emerging trends to maintain an innovative edge.
* Project Leadership: Manage timelines and milestones in collaboration with cross-functional teams, ensuring seamless execution of complex powertrain development projects.
* Engineering Governance: Oversee the review and approval of technical drawings, first-release designs, and engineering specifications, guaranteeing adherence to quality and industry standards.
* Innovation Advocacy: Drive the adoption of advanced materials, manufacturing methods, and powertrain technologies to position the company as an industry leader.
* Team Development: Mentor and guide engineers, cultivating technical expertise within the team while encouraging professional growth and continuous learning.
* Design Reviews: Facilitate rigorous technical reviews of powertrain systems, ensuring designs meet functional requirements and align with overarching project objectives.
* Stakeholder Communication: Act as the primary technical liaison with internal teams and external partners, effectively conveying project goals, challenges, and milestones.
Personal Specification
* An interest and detailed understanding of fundamental motorcycle principles.
* Proven ability to lead technical teams, inspire innovation, and foster a collaborative and high-performance culture.
* Practical hands-on engineering and mechanical experience.
* A minimum of 10 years of automotive engineering background.
* Proven experience in a similar role.
* Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to evaluate complex systems and propose innovative solutions.
* Pro-E or CREO experience is preferred but not essential.
* An understanding of Powertrain and its interaction with chassis and electronics.
* A knowledge of DFM and DFA.
* Demonstrated success in working with suppliers to source, develop, and integrate powertrain components efficiently and effectively.
* Be experienced in materials and manufacturing processes.
