We are looking to appoint a well-qualified and enthusiastic teacher for this academically selective school. The person must be able to teach Mathematics to A Level; the ability to teach Further Mathematics to A Level would be desirable. This is a full-time, permanent position to commence in September 2025. An earlier start date might be possible for the right candidate.
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, and no experience of working in the independent sector is required. A willingness to participate in the wider life of the school with pastoral care duties and help with co-curricular activities is expected. The post would suit a newly qualified entrant as well as a more experienced member of staff.
Early applications are most welcome; depending on the number of applications received, we reserve the right to bring the closing date and interviews forward.
The Mathematics Department
The Mathematics Department consists of five full-time teachers (including the Head of Mathematics) and three part-time teachers. We are a very successful department: approximately two-thirds of our Year 11 pupils go on to study Mathematics in the Sixth Form, with, on average, 20 choosing to study both Mathematics and Further Mathematics at this level. We follow the Edexcel A Level specification. Our A Level results are strong: in 2024, 49% of A Level Mathematics candidates achieved a grade A*; 85% achieved grades A*-A.
Pupils are taught in form groups from years 7 – 11 for four 35-40-minute periods per week. In years 10 and 11, pupils work towards the Edexcel IGCSE (4MA0) Mathematics course (higher level); moreover, all are offered the chance to study Additional Mathematics (OCR FSMQ) alongside the standard IGCSE course. Results at IGCSE are impressive: in 2024, 95% of pupils achieve a grade 7-9 in IGCSE Mathematics.
Mathematics is an important part of the extra-curricular life of the school: pupils participate in UKMT individual and team challenges; we have Senior Team Maths competition teams participating in regional competitions. Pupil leadership is an important aspect of our school culture and sixth form mathematicians are involved in mentoring students in the Lower School who require support.
Extension and enrichment are at the heart of our teaching philosophy. To this end, a prospective teacher of Mathematics at KEHS will need not just to support our pupils to achieve excellent examination outcomes, but also to challenge them to go beyond the requirements of the specification. The post will involve teaching a significant amount of A Level Mathematics: any applicant should be confident about teaching all elements of this course; we hope that they will also be able to teach A Level Further Mathematics and to contribute to our Oxbridge preparation.
