The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH) leads the development, planning and delivery of comprehensive primary health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in South East Queensland.
Birthing and Early Childhood Services offers a holistic, culturally informed model of care, delivering comprehensive maternal and infant health services and education for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families. This strengths-based approach ensures maternal and infant care is provided in a culturally appropriate, community-centred environment.
About the Role
As a Domestic and Family Violence Specialist within the Birthing and Early Childhood Services South/North team, you will provide support and collaborative case management to women and their child(ren) who experience domestic and family violence. The Domestic Violence Specialist Worker will provide targeted multidisciplinary advocacy to assist the women and children achieve the goals set out in their case plans.
* Provide culturally appropriate outreach, advocacy and case managed support to women, children and their families experiencing DFV.
* Conduct evidence-based risk assessments within the context of Domestic and Family Violence including completing safety planning.
* Network and collaborate with other programs to promote an integrated approach to the issues faced by women and children affected by domestic violence.
* Assist coordination with tenancy and housing support that promotes long-term, safe and sustainable housing options for women and children experiencing DFV.
* Maintain up to date and confidential records for all clients that include ethical and accurate case noting.
* Apply specialist skills that restore and reaffirm pride in the cultural identity of women and their families.
* Understand both protective factors and challenges facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families in South East Queensland.
* Use trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches to create a safe, supportive environment for women and their families.
* Provide support and advocacy for families involved with the Department of Child Safety as part of IUIH multidisciplinary team and integrated model of care.
* Encourage and promote an integrated, multidisciplinary team-based approach to service delivery.
About You
* Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD).
* Valid Blue Card (must have prior to commencement).
* Current CPR & First Aid Certificate.
* Current Criminal History Check.
* Relevant tertiary qualifications (minimum Diploma level).
* Experience working with women experiencing domestic violence.
* Demonstrated crisis intervention, case management, and trauma-informed practice skills.
* Knowledge of current child protection legislation and policy reforms.
* Knowledge of the impact of trauma on child and family functioning and the ability to provide a therapeutic response.
* Ability to work sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, their leaders and health professionals.
