Position Overview
The Bursar is a key senior leadership position at Eton College. Reporting directly to the Head Master, but working closely with the Provost & Fellows (the governing body), the Bursar is responsible for both financial strategy and operational delivery and plays a crucial role in the strategic development of the College.
Responsibilities
1. Develop and implement the College’s financial strategy to ensure long-term financial sustainability.
2. Work closely and proactively with all parts of the College to consider and propose areas for investment, as well as appropriate economies where possible.
3. Oversee the College’s securities and property portfolios, ensuring effective management and growth in alignment with the College’s mission and values.
4. Balance the challenges and needs of complex organisations: think strategically, inspire and motivate teams; manage resources and deliver results.
5. Devote time, creativity, and experience to the challenge of raising revenue over and above Eton’s traditional income streams.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will need to have:
1. Previous experience leading and managing a multi-disciplinary team.
2. Strong inter-personal and communication skills.
3. A strong and authentic interest in the education sector, along with a desire to support Eton’s educational aims and values.
Previous experience of working in a school is not essential and applications from other industries will be actively welcomed.
