About the role
Balfour Beatty is offering an exciting opportunity for a Senior Estimator to join our Power Transmission & Distribution team. This UK-based role will specialize in estimating High Voltage Substations within our Power T&D client portfolio.
The ideal candidate will be based near our Central Hub in Derby or our Motherwell office in Scotland. Remote working options may also be considered for the right candidate.
What you'll be doing
* Collaborate with the Estimating Manager to develop a robust pricing strategy.
* Attend key bid meetings, including strategy sessions, pre-bid and kick-off meetings, site visits, risk workshops, supplier/subcontractor meetings, and pricing/programme reviews.
* Stay updated on new products and emerging technologies.
* Ensure all estimates comply with the bid governance process.
* Prepare cost-related documentation, such as Cost Summaries and Cashflows, in line with Gate procedures.
* Understand and align estimates with the project's technical and commercial requirements.
* Produce accurate, competitive estimates.
* Coordinate with the Pre-Construction Manager and liaise across internal departments, including Design, Procurement, Operations, and Commercial teams.
* Evaluate and benchmark supplier and subcontractor quotations.
* Review and validate Bills of Materials from the Design team.
* Ensure estimates align with the detailed project programme.
* Identify and cost project risks and opportunities.
* Lead internal pricing reviews and benchmark estimates against similar projects.
* Manage the handover process from estimating to commercial, operational, procurement, and finance teams for awarded contracts.
* Engage with project teams to gather lessons learned and actual cost feedback for continuous improvement.
Who we're looking for
* Familiarity with SSE and/or National Grid operations.
* Strong understanding of risk and opportunity analysis.
* Solid financial acumen with the ability to accurately analyze data and documentation.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* A collaborative team player capable of liaising with support functions effectively.
* Flexibility to work occasional unsociable hours.
* Training will be provided for CANDY estimating software.
* Availability to commute to a Balfour Beatty office twice per week.
Education and Experience
* HNC qualification or equivalent.
* 5–10 years of experience in an estimating role.
* 5+ years of experience within the sector.
