Job Description
As a Cloud FinOps Analyst at Checkout.com, you will provide expert leadership in driving financial accountability and operational efficiency across our global cloud infrastructure. Collaborating closely with engineering, finance, and leadership teams, you will establish financial best practices, ensure cost optimization, and provide visibility into cloud spend in a dynamic, high-transaction environment.
You will help define the standards for cloud financial management and work with product and engineering leadership to shape our cost optimisation and efficiency roadmap. As an expert in cloud financial operations, you will act as a mentor and coach, providing strategic guidance and fostering a culture of financial discipline across teams.

What you'll be doing:
Cost Management and Optimization
1. Analysing AWS usage and spending patterns to identify optimisation opportunities, including rightsizing, reserved instances and savings plans.
2. Implementing and monitoring cost governance policies to control cloud spending across multiple regions and accounts.
3. Collaborating with DevOps and engineering teams to integrate cost-aware practices into application and infrastructure design.
4. Designing and implementing strategies to enable accurate cost attribution and accountability.
Financial Planning and Reporting
1. Partnering with the finance team to forecast cloud spending and track budget adherence.
2. Building and maintaining detailed financial models for AWS cost forecasting and ROI analysis on cloud initiatives.
3. Generating actionable insights using tools like AWS Cost Explorer, CloudHealth, or CloudZero, and present them to stakeholders.
Tools and Automation
1. Leveraging AWS tools such as AWS Budgets, AWS Cost and Usage Reports, and AWS Trusted Advisor for real-time monitoring and automation of FinOps processes.
2. Developing custom scripts and dashboards to enhance cost visibility.
3. Automating cost anomaly detection and alerts to minimise unplanned expenditures.
Governance and Stakeholder Engagement
1. Establishing and enforcing FinOps policies across global teams to ensure alignment with financial and operational goals.
2. Acting as a liaison between engineering, operations, and finance teams to ensure AWS cost strategies align with business objectives.
Qualifications
1. 5+ years of experience in AWS cloud cost management/FinOps roles.
2. In-depth knowledge of AWS services and pricing models, including EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda.
3. Proficiency with AWS billing and cost management tools such as AWS Cost Explorer and AWS Cost Anomaly Detection.
4. Hands-on experience with FinOps tools such as CloudHealth, CloudZero.
5. Scripting and automation experience (e.g., Python, AWS CLI).
6. Familiarity with IaC tools like Terraform or CloudFormation for cost-aware infrastructure management.
7. Strong financial modeling and forecasting skills with a focus on cloud economics.
8. Proven ability to work with large data sets, analyze trends, and deliver actionable insights.
9. Effective communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
10. Experience working in FinTech, payments, or other high-transaction environments is a strong plus.
11. Familiarity with global regulatory and compliance requirements related to cloud operations (e.g., PCI-DSS, ISO).
