Job Purpose: This is an opportunity for a graduate to gain experience in the independent education sector and a boarding environment. The work is varied, determined by the personality, enthusiasm, and skills of the individual, but excellent piano skills are essential. The post is likely to be a successful springboard for those considering teaching as a career.
The Graduate Assistant will be part of a large team of music staff. It is hoped that the candidate will collaborate with others in teaching and major performance projects, and also lead with their own interests and specialisms. The success of the department is due to the team's collaboration and how creative events are produced through good planning, musicianship, and leadership of the students we teach.
Key Responsibilities:
1. General instrumental teaching: Beginners – piano.
2. Scholarships: Supporting Scholars with Pre auditions; School visits; accompanying Masterclasses; coaching of music scholar skills; Teaching of music theory grades 5-8 and music aural skills; Practice supervision and Accompanying.
3. Events: Actively support various events such as Reading Minster, Carol Services, Concert rehearsals, Plays, Recitals, and Assemblies.
4. Music Examinations: Providing support for Examination practice and Examination Days by listening and supporting boys who are entered, providing extra lessons outside of academic lessons and on weekends; Filming and managing Performance examinations; Accompanying, Stewarding, and Examiner liaison; Teaching of music theory grades 1-5, homework and exercise management; and Invigilation of theory exams.
5. Practice supervision and support: General instrumental practice sessions and Performance practice (including Monday Assembly, Recitals, Auditions & Concerts).
6. Choirs & Ensembles & Bands: Transposing music requirements and music arrangements, and attending Chapel.
7. Whole School support: Involves being an active part of the Ludgrove community - covering duties, lunches, evenings, games, activities, and weekend events.
