Job summary An opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified, HCPC registered candidate to join the Mid Yorkshire Pathology Team as a Specialist Biomedical Scientist, working in the Biochemistry Department of the Blood Sciences Department. Applications are invited from experienced HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists with a completed IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Clinical Biochemistry. The post holder will be required to participate in a shift system. The Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust covers three sites, Pinderfields, Pontefract and Dewsbury Hospital. Biochemistry laboratories are present on the Dewsbury & Pinderfields sites. A managed service contract is currently in place with Biochemistry automation equipment supplied by Roche & Tosoh. Pre and post analytic processes are dealt with by a GLP automated track system. Helena Biosciences equipment is used in the processing of samples for electrophoresis and immunofixation. Over the next 12 months the laboratory will be switching to a new managed service contract with Siemens Healthineers. This change in analysers & automated track system is a great opportunity and challenge to be an integral part of the required validation & verification work necessary to maintain the departments UKAS accreditation. Main duties of the job The successful candidate would be expected to work as part of a team alongside colleagues in biochemistry, plus the wider blood sciences team with colleagues in blood transfusion, haematology and specimen reception. There would also be the requirement to work independently as required by managers, during the normal working day or as part of the out of hours service provision. There can be a myriad of diverse tasks to complete when working in a Biochemistry laboratory, making it difficult to list them all. However, the main tasks include: Maintenance of analysers. Technical validation of assays & results. Contacting clinical teams with abnormal results & dealing with queries. Troubleshooting internal quality control issues. Solve analyser & automated track problems. Training & mentoring of staff. Update standard operating procedures & conduct audits. Assist senior staff in the evaluation of new methods and equipment. Attend training opportunities. Maintain competencies & mandatory training. Participate and contribute in departmental meetings.
