As our Head of Vocational and English and Maths, you will lead the strategic development and operational management of the curriculum in line with South Thames Colleges Group (STCG) objectives and performance targets. This means a high-quality curriculum that is connected to the local and regional needs of the community the College serves.
You will have oversight of and responsibility for the vocational curriculum at Carshalton and English and Maths across Merton and Carshalton colleges, ensuring that students receive a first-class experience that enables them to progress and attain their qualifications at high levels and to develop long-lasting learning and employability skills. Working alongside the Senior Leadership Team, College managers and staff, external bodies and networks, you will drive improvement of Teaching, Learning and Assessment across all curriculum areas to ensure excellent student experience in the classroom.
Success is measured in terms of retention, achievement, value added, meaningful progression in education and training and destination into higher education and/or employment. The role carries with it a professional responsibility to be a highly competent user of key College systems and to be thoroughly acquainted with all College policies and procedures.
We would like you to hold a degree or equivalent professional qualification, hold a teaching qualification and have evidence of strong professional development relevant to the needs of the post. With excellent knowledge of curriculum, including Government policy and local/regional context, you will have well-developed knowledge of relevant pedagogies, and how these are used in high quality evidence-based teaching, learning and assessment. You will have comprehensive knowledge and understanding of national standards, awarding body requirements and relevant Ofsted frameworks with knowledge of safeguarding policy and practice within a School or College environment.
With experience of managing a team of staff effectively, including dealing with underperformance, to produce high quality student outcomes, you will have a demonstrable record of working with underperforming areas/courses and achieving measurable improvement and a track record of leading and managing change. You will be able to see the bigger picture and to think and act strategically with strong leadership skills that deliver results even in challenging situations. You will have evidence of successful curriculum innovation, able to achieve high professional standards, and to model appropriate behaviours.
