About the role
As the Quality Engineer for Motoring, your key focus is to ensure that Halfords products are fit-for-purpose, safe, and legal.
You'll be responsible for providing proactive and timely product technologist and quality assurance contributions to the development of products, product information, and manufacturing processes relevant to Halfords products. Collaboration with Buyers and suppliers is key to align, develop, and implement quality assurance processes, policies, and procedures to meet standards, regulatory, and Halfords requirements.
Key Accountabilities
1. Evaluation of products to verify compliance with company standards and all relevant legislation.
2. Propose quality improvements, concerns management activities, and product development programmes.
3. Complete product specifications and assess suppliers to ensure they can consistently manufacture products to the correct specification.
4. Work closely with cross-functional teams such as HGS, supply chain, and Brand marketing to drive quality improvements and ensure a consistent quality experience and purchasing journey for customers.
5. Travel as necessary within the UK, Europe, and Asia in collaboration with HGS Teams in Hong Kong and Shanghai and Taiwan, to assure at-pace product development and support sourcing activities.
6. Actively engage with suppliers to reduce incoming defects.
7. Support across the Quality Team in other product areas and development projects/activities as required.
Skills & Experience
1. Professionally qualified to BSc in Engineering, Product Design, Applied Science, or Manufacturing disciplines, or equivalent experience.
2. At least 2+ years of practical experience in product development and product technical/quality assurance in a Retail Quality/Technical/Technologist buying support role of General Merchandise or Consumer Products.
3. Direct experience with Motoring product Category products, chemicals, mechanical products, electronics, or Electrical Engineering, or hardline products is desirable.
4. Knowledge and experience of product manufacturing and the quality principles involved (ISO 9000).
5. Understand customer needs and translate these to develop products.
6. Experience of manufacturing technologies, product design or sourcing with extended supply chain, digital business, and the application of quality management systems would be beneficial.
