We are recruiting two permanent Public Health Advisers and one 12-month fixed term/secondment Public Health Adviser (maternity cover) to the Public Health Science Service in Public Health Scotland.
About The Organisation
Public Health Scotland launched 1st April 2020 as a national health board, employing around 1200 people, and with an annual budget of around £101 million. Public Health Scotland wants to see a Scotland where everybody thrives, a Scotland where life expectancy improves and the difference in life expectancy between our poorest and wealthiest areas gets smaller.
The Posts
The Public Health Science Service is made up of approximately 40 staff, committed to improving population health and reducing health inequalities. We focus on the social and economic determinants of health and health inequalities, employing three main approaches: data and intelligence; evaluation; and evidence synthesis. These three posts sit in the data and intelligence function of the Service. We use information from a range of sources to better understand the health of the Scottish population, the factors that affect it and contribute to evaluation, monitoring and policy reviewing activity.
Our Current Work Includes The Following
* Understanding economic determinants of health and how to deliver an economy that supports health and wellbeing.
* Understanding trends in health inequalities.
* Evaluating action on the commercial determinants of health.
* Generating high quality information about children’s health and wellbeing and reducing child poverty.
* Understanding and promoting public mental health.
* Contributing to a range of work within the Scottish Public Health Observatory.
The Candidate
Your work will involve leading in the provision of evidence-informed public health intelligence to address the key public health needs; building relationships with a range of stakeholders to enable meaningful engagement to ensure our work meets their needs; contribute to the overall planning and development of the team’s work; and providing advice, guidance and leadership around national data sources, to ensure that they best meet public health intelligence needs.
Location and Working Pattern
The posts are based in either Gyle Square, Edinburgh or Central Quay, Glasgow. We are currently hybrid working; therefore, you will be expected to spend time in both PHS offices as well as the option to work at home. Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week. PHS is a flexible employer, and we are happy to discuss requests for alternative working patterns.
