An exciting opportunity has arisen for experienced RN's who wish to join the Acute Intervention Team as a Nurse Practitioner.
The post holder will work across Darlington Memorial Hospital, University Hospital of North Durham and Bishop Auckland Hospital to provide education and support to all healthcare staff caring for the acutely deteriorating patient. They will facilitate decision making and communication between clinical staff, patients and relatives.
The Team is firmly committed to ensure all patients are treated by the right professional, in the right place, at the right time, first time, every time, 24 hours-a-day.
This is an exciting role that will allow you to utilise your education and clinical skills to improve practice and ensure that patients receive the best possible standard of care. The role would suit any experienced nurse with a background in acute/emergency/critical care who has an interest in teaching.
Full time, part time, and temporary hours available.
Main duties of the job
The job involves working as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing a high-quality service wthin the Acute Internvention and wider hospital team.
The post holder will:
- Ensure that patients with clinical deterioration have their needs prioritised with appropriate assessment, intervention and on-going management.
-Ensure that patients at risk are reviewed regularly and appropriate intervention initiated in a timely manner.
- Deliver education to support ward teams in caring for the deteriorating patient.
- Assist and support ward staff with care of the dying patients, complex DNACPR decisions and ensure effective communication with the patient and their families.
- Be an active member of the emergency response teams within the hospital, taking a lead role in the Medical Emergency Team.
- Capable of acting as team leader in the Cardiac Arrest team when required.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.
