Job Description The Fluid Mechanics team supports the breadth of markets within AtkinsRéalis is expanding to meet the demand from the Defence, Nuclear, Transportation and Water markets. The team embodies the Advanced Technology nature of D&AT, representing specialist areas, applying computational and empirical solutions to complex fluid and thermal related problems. Typical work includes studies on gas dispersal, hydraulic performance of water treatment, sewage flow and deposition, rail carriage wind interaction, fire development, building comfort, blast deflagration and detonation, and wind environment with structural interaction. The UK component of the team is diversely located across the UK, with this role intended to be in support of one of our London, Epsom, Glasgow and Birmingham offices, but with opportunities to work at home, our client locations elsewhere in the UK, and overseas. You will be able to work on a range of projects from those of strategic national importance such as the Nuclear New Build of Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C, HS2, and multiple Defence projects. Who we’re looking for: Talented Chartered Engineers or Physicists with a 2.2 or above MEng/MSc degree (or equivalent) in a Mechanical, Chemical, Physics, General, or related discipline. Good written standard of English and oral communication abilities. Ability to apply your technical knowledge to analyze problems and create innovative solutions. Experience in developing the application of computer programming and other digital solutions to engineering problems. Ambition, vision, enthusiasm and the drive to keep on developing your technical skills. Strong interpersonal and team working skills. A flexible approach to travel as our projects and training may take you to a variety of locations in the UK and possibly abroad. Affiliations with relevant bodies and institutions, e.g. IChemE, CEng, CPhys. The role would join a body of technically focused engineers who aim to provide solutions to complex problems. There is a demand for an analytically focused, practically minded Engineer or Physicist, with a Mechanical, Chemical, or equivalent Engineering background who is looking for a challenge. Responsibilities: Technical Integration - to lead and be part of technical delivery teams to deliver a range of projects to completion, within cost budget and to programme. Delivering work through others - leading and coordinating modelling specialists in the delivery of compliant technical studies. Reviewing technical inputs and outputs, including quality assurance and reporting review. Delivering work as an individual - performing engineering calculations including Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) modelling and simulation, and authoring associated study technical reports. Clearly communicating key study findings/outcomes to a range of stakeholders within agreed input requirements. Accountability - maintain and promote high personal standards in Quality, Health, Safety and Wellbeing, Security and Environment. Accountability - effectively manage your own time, which may be necessary if allocated to more than one project. Commercial - developing project scopes of work, commercial proposals and managing technical tasks. Relationships - build internal relationships and help identify business opportunities. Requirements: Approximately several years of relevant experience within industry. Competent problem solver with sound understanding of engineering principles. In-depth knowledge on the application of CFD. Proficiency in use of commercial CFD codes (Siemens Star-CCM, ANSYS Fluent), understanding of modelling workflows and best practices. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, with a professional approach and ability to present data in a clear manner. Excellent time management and organisational skills, able to prioritize tasks in a dynamic multi-project environment. The ability to work well alone or as part of a team. Scripting / minor programming experience (Java, Python). Strong academic background with a relevant Honors degree, degrees or equivalent. Chartered Status. A flexible attitude to both the type of work undertaken and the level of responsibility given. Desirable – Familiar with working to design codes, industry standards, and performance based design approaches appropriate for a safety critical industry. What we offer?
