As a Meter Reader, you will be required to capture all meter reading data in line with the Field Operations meter-reading schedule in order to ensure the customer receives an accurate and timely bill and to avoid unwanted contacts and complaints. Undertaking any ad hoc field visits that have been requested to either disconnect the water supply or to obtain further information as required by the Company in order to resolve a customer query or dispute. Your responsibilities will include:
1. Capturing water meter reading data from water customer's meters, using the hand held unit, within set timescales as directed by the cyclical meter reading schedule.
2. Receiving and transmitting meter reading data via a handheld unit.
3. Identifying unexpected water meter reads, such as higher or lower water consumption profile, and recording this additional information onto the handheld device in line with the Automated Meter Reading guidelines.
4. Providing a reason for any water meter that was unable to be read within the schedule, in line with the Automated Meter Reading guidelines.
5. Placing all water meters into a walk order route that optimises the volume of water meters read.
6. Carrying out non-cyclical meter reading activity in line with automated system order requests and within the set timescales.
7. Disconnecting the water supply on commercial properties as instructed by the Commercial Collections Department.
8. Undertaking supply checks on water supplies that have been disconnected for non-payment of water charges, in line with company guidelines and timeframes, and to immediately escalate any situation where the water supply has turned back on to the Commercial Collections Team for further instruction.
9. Adopting best practice on operational performance to help support the delivery of the department's KPI for DG8 meter reading.
10. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with our operational partners across other parts of the business to ensure objectives are supported and delivered.
11. Proactively undertaking a dynamic risk assessment at each field visit to ensure a safe working environment prior to undertaking each activity.
12. Reporting all near misses and hazards that could cause potential harm, in line with the Company health and safety process and procedures.
13. Ensuring the company vehicle is regularly checked in line with company policy and that any vehicle defects are immediately escalated in line with transport guidelines.
The successful candidate must be located in / around the Hereford area (10 mile radius) and must have the following:
* Full Driving Licence.
* Adaptable to changing priorities.
* Using own initiative and thinking outside the box.
* Ideally the successful candidate will be IT literate in Microsoft Office applications including various Apps, but training will be provided on the systems we use.
* Transferrable experience to ensure full compliance and adherence to all health and safety procedures.
Good to know: A full UK drivers licence is required.
