Breast (Advanced Nurse Practitioner)
Full-time post (Fixed Term Contract - 1 year)
The Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) role has been developed in response to changing healthcare provision, with the emphasis on developing expert clinical skills including advanced assessment and diagnostic skills. The ANP supports the junior medical team and increases the skills of the nursing workforce.
The Advanced Nurse Practitioner is an experienced registered nurse with specialist skills to assess and treat patients and manage the clinical environment. The nurse will act as an autonomous practitioner in forming clinical decisions and complex management plans in the diagnosis, assessment and treatment of patients. In conjunction with senior nursing and consultant staff formulate the development of clinical guidance for all aspects of clinical practice within the clinical speciality. The ANP would triage referrals, support the CNS to be able to clinically triage appropriately and see patients in clinic to support the consultant workforce. We also have a high demand of post diagnostic reviews that the ANP would support is an expectation that the post holder will be involved in service development, research, teaching and education commitments and a willingness to develop oneself and promote the Trust through attendance and contribution at local, national and international forums.

Main duties of the job
1. To be professionally and legally accountable for all work undertaken and to practice at an advanced level of professional autonomy and accountability that is within national breast cancer guidelines, CUH Trust policies and NMC Codes of Conduct.
2. To deliver evidence based expert nursing care exercising a high degree of professional autonomy, demonstrating ability to make sound decisions based on knowledge and experience.
3. To assess individuals holistically using a range of different assessment methods and reach valid, reliable and comprehensive patient and client centred conclusions, which manage risk and are appropriate to need context and culture.
4. To independently receive patient referrals utilising highly developed expert knowledge, diagnostic and clinical skills to carry out assessment and initiate treatment pathways.
5. To perform health assessments including obtaining a clinical history, conducting the physical examination and assessment of psychological wellbeing.
6. Assessing patients on the breast pain pathway.
7. To order diagnostic tests ( blood tests, CXR, echocardiography, MRI, CT, bone scan, DEXA scan) as appropriate and in keeping with the unit policies and national guidelines.
8. To direct and use the results of specialist investigations ( blood tests, radio-nucleotide scans and radiology) to assist formulation of diagnosis and plan patient management.
