Location Leeds, Birmingham or Winchester This role is a 12 month fixed term contract covering maternity leave Hybrid working The Role The Information Technology department is currently delivering an impressive portfolio of projects on the back of continued significant investment in technology for the firm. Reporting to the Head of IT Solutions, the Solutions Specialist / Case Developer will sit within the Business Solutions team within IT. You will be responsible for the delivery of quality application development and scripting that help our users and clients solve commercial challenges and drive efficiency within the firm. You will be part of a team responsible for configuring key business software applications, ensuring that the solutions deliver their full potential. This includes a mix of technologies such as SSRS and assisting with basic case management workflow, such as scripting Word templates. This role will be a bridge between the legal applications team and the development teams and will have responsibilities covering both areas. Main Responsibilities - Technical deployment – responsible for developing business solutions that interface with the line of business applications of the firm as well as customising and configuring off the shelf software or cloud based applications; - Workflow and integration development – building and maintaining process improvement workflows across the line of business application stack using the platforms available. Assisting others to integrate workflows into line of business applications; - Provide MI through various methods like SSRS (scheduled reports / intranet dashboards). Collaborate with members of the wider IT team to help ensure that case management reports are delivered to users which are relevant, insightful and integrate tightly with both the case management system and the practice management finance data; - Design and build changes to new and existing applications. Integrating, maintaining, releasing, testing and implementing software solutions while ensuring they are user-friendly, reliable and importantly meet the requirements of the firm; - Product ownership – taking responsibility for various applications right through the lifecycle, from design and development through to service transition and support; - Assisting stakeholders gain a clear vision for each project and working with others in the team to ensure that the vision is technically achievable - Monitoring and maintaining the health of key business systems and managing the portfolio of change for these key systems and be the technical lead on related projects; - Building relationships with the IT Service Delivery team to understand pressures of support, analysing problems and helping to define projects that deliver real benefits to end users and support the Service Delivery team by troubleshooting complex incidents that have been escalated to the Business Solutions team; - Data - designing data structures and access methods to support any custom development; - Data analysis – building applications that allow for accurate management information and reporting, integrating case and financial data into developed applications; and - Ensuring technical solutions are succinctly documented and release procedures are followed. Skill set - Technical graduate (or equivalent experience) in a technical background with at least 3 years’ experience of designing, developing, supporting, delivering and maintaining bespoke business applications, ideally in a professional services environment. - Experience of Microsoft Word and template development. - C#, VB, SQL Server, SSRS, would be desirable skills. - Any prior legal case management experience or knowledge of Legal workflows would be a bonus. - Ideally the role will also have an understanding and some experience of integration services, working with any type of integration technology, particularly using REST APIs/SOAP/sFTP/SSIS. - Any knowledge of PowerShell or SharePoint or 365 tooling like PowerApps or PowerAutomate a bonus. - Any prior experience (or ability to quickly adapt existing skills) of using various scripting, mark up or programming languages to develop solutions appropriately, with the willingness to learn new methods and techniques a bonus. - Willingness to be flexible in the technology and methodology used deliver projects depending on the requirement and timescale. Any prior experience working under an Agile software development environment a benefit. - Knowledge of application ecosystems – installation, desktops, networks, databases, servers, IIS, Security. - Commercial awareness and inquisitiveness that allows you to understand the challenges faced by the firm and its clients and develop solutions to match. - Ability to quickly identify tasks that may be at risk, communicating early to manage expectations accordingly. - Excellent planning and organisational skills. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. - A self-starter with an inquisitive mind and an ability to apply knowledge to new situations and environments - Has an innovation mind-set, with the willingness to experiment and explore new ways of delivering technology solutions. - Develops applications with security in mind, protecting data at all times.
