Registered Nurse Daisy Ward and Procedure Unit

Daisy Ward is a 21 bedded elective surgical ward adjacent to the Procedure Unit which accommodates day surgery patients and staff cover both areas in rotation. We care for patients from a variety of surgical specialities including General surgery, Gynaecology, Colorectal, ENT, Urology, Ophthalmology, Plastics and Orthopaedic surgery.
Main duties of the job
We have two 23 hour vacancies for a band 5 nurse to join our well-established high performing team. We are very proud of the high level of care we provide to our patients which is reflected in our excellent patient feedback, and the reputation we have in providing high standards of care, energy, enthusiasm, innovation, teamwork, striving for excellence and providing a positive patient experience.

Job responsibilities
* Maintain clinical credibility to act as a role model and take a lead role in the patients journey.
* Deliver high quality evidence based care.
* Take responsibility for the organisation and day to day management of a team of staff giving care to patients.
* Ensure that patient care remains a priority in inter-professional practice and that referrals to the MDT are timely and discharge planning takes place.
* Be professionally accountable for your actions and omissions.
* Share best practice with colleagues and the wider MDT.
* Ensure practice is continually reviewed and developed, in liaison with the Ward/ Department Manager, Deputy Sister/ Deputy Charge Nurse, ward team and PDT.
* Take charge of the ward when the Ward Manager/ Department Manager deems it is appropriate, as part of role and personal development.
* Ensure that you are individually aware of changes in guidelines and policies that impact on clinical practice.
* Maintain own professional registration complying with the professions standards and identify own development needs.
* Uphold the Values and reputation of your profession and the Trust at all times.
* Be open and candid with all service users about all aspects of care and treatment, including when any mistakes or harm have taken place.

Education & Qualifications
* Registered Nurse
* Live NMC registration
* Evidence of professional development

Experience
* Previous experience in an elective/day surgery unit
* Evidence of working at a senior band 5 level
* Understanding of Accountability and responsibility
* Understanding of Evidence based practice
* Competence in clinical skills relevant to a staff nurse post including the clinical decision making process
* Ability to function as part of a multidisciplinary team
Skills/Ability & Knowledge
* Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written with people at all levels.
* Ability to recognise incorrect or ineffective practice.
* Awareness of current professional issues both national and local.
* Awareness of HR policies.
* Confidence to address poor or ineffective practice.
Qualities/ Attributes / Other
* IT literate
