The role
As the Technical Services Delivery Manager, you will be responsible for leading the delivery sub-team. This team of eight individuals is accountable for: ensuring and promoting the compliance of member benefits with scheme rules, legislation and the regulatory regime; delivering calculations, data and reporting under the buy-in/buy-out operational framework; delivering solutions to queries and complex calculations to improve member experience; processing valuation data extracts; and providing technical input to Railpen’s pensions administration training programme.
As well as managing the performance of this sub-team, you will support the ongoing compliance of the Industry-Wide DC Section within the master trust supervisory regime, and provide senior subject matter expertise to the team and wider Railpen business to: influence and support effective strategic implementation of industry and scheme changes; promote compliance of member benefits with rules, legislation and the regulatory regime; and anticipate, analyse and communicate change in these areas.
This role is pivotal in building and managing a proportionate and effective technical services function, and ensuring the growth and development of colleagues.
The person
We are looking for a collaborative and inclusive leader who has a technical pensions background and knowledge of DB pension schemes with an understanding of compliance and complex calculations. You will provide quality specialist technical pension advice and analysis to Railpen teams, trustees and other stakeholders, proactively keeping them informed with appropriate balance of quality, detail and timing. You will be an experienced people manager and will work with your peers across the Technical Policy and Services team (i.e. four other managers) to ensure the team’s priorities are delivered and that support is given to the Director of Technical Policy and Services and the entire team.
You will lead by example, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment where you encourage the team to develop and openly share knowledge and provide direction and guidance, as well as coaching the development of team members to ensure everyone feels empowered to take ownership and accountability.
This is a unique role, where you will have the autonomy and influence to bring a new lease of energy and direction to the business, building on what we currently have with a vision for continuous improvement and supporting some material strategic changes.
