Band 7 Therapeutic Radiographer Team Leader

UHB are looking to recruit 2 Therapeutic Radiographer Team Leaders who are confident, highly motivated, and forward-thinking with a passion for patient care and service development.
The department has undergone significant change with new programmes of work aimed directly at supporting our excellent Radiographers. As a Team Leader, you can expect 1:1 additional support from our Tech Leads and SMT, and department-delivered programmes aimed at your development to achieve your career aspirations.
Successful applicants will be joining a team of circa 100 staff that deliver one of the highest percentages of IG-IMRT treatments in the U.K. and treats a large number of SABR patients for all commissioned indications. Our breast patients are treated with SGRT, and DIBH is offered to all appropriate patients who have left-sided breast cancer. We are one of two leading centres delivering radiotherapy for paediatrics in the Midlands that specialise in SGRT, intensity-modulated TBI & CSRT.
You will also be joining a team with a strong commitment and passion for radiographer development, and there have been opportunities for our staff to present their work at prestigious conferences such as ESTRO and UKIO.
Main duties of the job
You will be a highly experienced radiographer responsible for managing a treatment unit and leading a team of radiographers to provide safe and accurate highly specialised radiotherapy treatment.
You will manage a clinical workload ensuring that all treatments and procedures are delivered safely and correctly, maintaining high standards of technical and patient care. There is a requirement to work at an advanced level promoting best practice, giving expert advice, support, and guidance to junior staff and the multidisciplinary team.
You will work with the wider team on operational input into the department and staff-related matters, as well as providing mentoring and coaching to support the development of junior staff. In addition to the staff responsibilities within your control room, you will also take direct responsibility for your staff's 1:1s, appraisals, and work programmes to support their development.
As Team Leaders, there is a requirement to have a flexible approach to working hours to accommodate service demands and an essential requirement to be able to routinely cover extended day working Monday to Friday between 7.30 am to 8 pm. In addition, there is a requirement to work occasional bank holidays and some occasional weekend working.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* BSc (Hons) or Diploma in Therapeutic Radiography and/or experience to post-graduate diploma level
* or equivalent
* Current HCPC registration Attendance of recent relevant post-graduate courses and study days including assessment of undergraduates
* Evidence of interest and commitment in working towards further professional development and qualification
* Evidence of relevant MSc level study
Experience
* Experience of working clinically at a senior radiographer grade with evidence of leading and organising a team of radiographers
* Experience in assessing and teaching radiographers and trainee radiographers
* Experience of developing staff clinically and professionally
* Specialist knowledge of cancer pathology and disease patterns
* Specialist knowledge of clinical radiotherapy including potential radiation risks, acute patient side effects, and their effective management
* An active awareness of relevant legislation, national cancer standards, and professional guidelines
* Possess a high level of knowledge and expertise of radiotherapy principles and treatment techniques as well as having excellent leadership, management, and communication skills.
* Experience of undertaking clinical audits and surveys
Additional Criteria
* Ability to communicate articulately (written, verbal, and non-verbal) and provide information across professional boundaries
* Very good technical and manual dexterity skills required to physically operate equipment in a field of rapid technological change
* Excellent computer skills with proven ability of interrogating the oncology management system
* Proven leadership, organisational, and decision-making skills
* Demonstrable reasoning skills and an ability to use initiative and judgement in situations where there is a variance from routine/expected
* Able to assimilate information and formulate ideas/projects/developments
* Flexibility and the willingness to undertake a wide range of duties with the ability to work in all areas of the department
