Lockheed Martin (UK) Ampthill is a rapidly changing, dynamic part of the Lockheed Martin Corporation with both domestic and international customers.

We are seeking a proven Materials Engineer to join our Special Projects team at Lockheed Martin, Ampthill on an initial contract basis.
Please note due to the nature of the work this role is 100% on-site based.
What will I be doing?
The job involves a wide range of materials research activities including:
* Leading small scale materials research tasks while ensuring the cost and schedule achievement of the task.
* Supporting the development of manufacturing processes to ensure consistent manufacturable products that meet required quality and technical requirements.
* Providing advice and recommendations on Materials testing, selection and application.
* Building and maintaining materials properties databases and specifications to support the Engineering community.
* Producing technical documentation to support all activities, from trials specifications to detailed trials reporting.
* Communicating with all stakeholders, including Programme, Internal Stakeholder and any external suppliers to ensure planning is detailed and results delivered to the highest standards.
* Use of Microsoft Office and some bespoke software tools associated with materials trials analysis.
* Niche skills are required across either composites and / or metallics.
* Composite focus is on Carbon / Silica phenolic composite processing and characterisation.
* Metallics research is focused on additive manufacturing in a range of alloys.
* We are also looking into novel technologies for space and aerospace applications so experience in high temperature materials / materials used in hypersonics would be a welcome addition.
What skills will I need?
* Materials research or Materials science and engineering background (qualifications and work experience) in composite materials or metallics.
* Composites experience in carbon fibre composites processing and testing.
* Additive manufacturing in Aluminium / Stainless Steel
* Understanding of composite materials processing / metallic additive manufacturing
* Experience in composite and/or metallic characterisation methods.
* Understanding of composite materials applied to space and aerospace applications.
* Writing technical documents.
Desired Skills:
* Background in high temperature materials / Hypersonics materials would be a welcome addition.
* Experience of Lab based materials development and testing.
* Understanding of phenolic resin processing, properties and chemistry
* Experience of working withing an ISO 9001 Quality system.
* Presentation skills.
* Knowledge of both destructive and non-destructive inspection techniques.
