The Role
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Chief Commercial Officer (CCO). The Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) will be responsible for the development and execution of the company’s commercial strategy, building the commercial team, driving revenue growth, fostering client relationships, strengthening our market position worldwide and ensuring the delivery of high-quality services that meet our clients' evolving needs. This senior leadership role is pivotal in aligning the sales, marketing, and business development functions with the company’s strategic objectives to ensure sustainable growth and long-term success. This position will preferably be based in the UK and will report to the Chief Executive Officer.
Responsibilities
* Develop and execute the company’s commercial strategy to maximise growth opportunities in the maritime risk sector.
* Grow and develop the commercial team to drive performance, achieve sales targets and deliver business objectives
* Oversee market expansion efforts by identifying new customer segments, geographic regions, and strategic partnerships, while also conducting market research and analysis to inform strategic decision-making and identify new business opportunities, cultivating relationships with potential clients and partners
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless service delivery and client satisfaction, while also working with the CEO and other executives to shape the company's vision, market positioning, and competitive advantage.
* Lead the development of key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure commercial success and ensure alignment with organisational goals.
* Cultivate relationships with senior executives, key decision-makers, and strategic partners in the maritime, insurance, and risk management sectors.
* Lead new business development initiatives, negotiate complex contracts and foster long-term client partnerships.
* Ensure client satisfaction by monitoring service quality and addressing issues to improve customer retention.
* Explore new business models and revenue streams, including value-added services and digital transformation within the industry.
* Oversee the development of marketing materials, proposals, and presentations for client engagement.
* Monitor industry developments, including regulatory changes and new market demands, as well as industry trends and competitor activities, to ensure the company remains at the forefront of the industry and maintains a competitive edge.
* Lead and mentor the commercial team, providing guidance and support to drive performance and professional growth.
* Foster a collaborative, results-oriented culture that drives the achievement of commercial objectives across all departments.
* Work closely with other departments to ensure seamless execution of commercial projects and initiatives.
* Oversee the commercial budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to support business development, sales, and marketing activities.
* Monitor financial performance, analyse market trends, and adjust commercial strategies as needed to maintain profitability.
Qualifications and skills
* Proven leadership experience in sales, marketing, or business development, with at least 5 years in a C-suite or senior executive role.
* Proven track record of driving revenue growth in the maritime, shipping, insurance, or risk management industries.
* Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Maritime Studies, or a related field would be an advantage. An MBA or equivalent advanced degree is highly desired.
* Strong understanding of maritime risk management, regulatory frameworks, and operational challenges, as well as maritime and shipping services and market dynamics.
* Exceptional leadership and team-building abilities.
* Strategic thinker with a proven ability to execute complex initiatives.
* Strong analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
* Fluency in English is required; additional languages relevant to global maritime markets are a strong advantage.
Terms and conditions
* Salary: commensurate with experience, including a bonus and equity scheme
* Annual Leave: 25 days per annum plus public holidays
* Working hours: 08:30am to 17:30pm Monday to Friday
* Job type: Full-time, permanent
* Place of work: Southampton, with hybrid working options available. National and international travel will be required.
